Whole Earth Bakery & Kitchen has been through some difficult times but was very hopeful for the future of this long standing business. Then came Hurricane Sandy. When the electricity went out Peter Silvestri had to throw out all the food inventory in the store that he needed to make the food to sell. We need to save the store! The loss in inventory coupled with the loss in revenue made a struggling business that much more difficult.
Always a point of good cheer in the neighborhood, on Halloween, after the Hurricane Peter was in front of the store giving out apples to the local kids saying they need some happiness in their lives now.
Peter's Mother was his partner until she passed in 2006. They were the first Vegan Bakery and restaurant in NYC turning from vegetarian in 1978 to vegan early on. Dedicated to veganism Whole Earth has many options and can meet special dietary needs. You can get yummy wheat free and gluten free treats. Peter is a master baker and is known for his pies, cakes and vegan cheesecakes.
For our rewards we offer a combination of items from the menu, discounts and classes with Peter. In the spirit of his support last year of OccupyWallStreet the rewards can be given as gifts to Occupy Sandy. Peter has friends who are regular volunteers and will be happy to deliver to the OS kitchens for distribution.
