This is Cooper Union's phony p.r. horror show -- Cooper Union tells the press we love what they are doing and I have news for Cooper Union, the community does not love what you are doing including shoving a 9-11 memorial community planter made by a homeless artist, Jim Powers, to the curb when you could have put your "Peter Cooper, Honest Abe" homage anywhere on your vast property holding and Peter Cooper wanted to support poor people not shove them to the street but Cooper Union, like NYU's no.1 priority is real estate!!!!!! Did you ever get this funny feeling that Cooper Union, NYU, Columbia University can get away with just about anything and as far as higher education -- what part of "NO!" do they not understand. No do not tear down our historic building! No, NYU do not tear down St. Ann's Church from 1847.
To the far right (in the top right photo), the sky piercing mirrored building in the background I am told -- I don't have this as fact so "rumor" is land leased and by the real estate magnate with the not for profit (shelter?) --- no, not NYU but Cooper Union. I am told Cooper owns the property and if you buy a condo there you are buying a lease hence the half empty mirrored building that reflects a history destroyed and a community no longer welcome.
This looks like a mirrored aquarium and next to it to the left -- what looks like an over size space ship parked on the Bowery is Cooper Square hotel, aka "Dubai on the Bowery". I am still waiting for the 9th Precinct to give that space ship tickets for "no parking"!!!!!
Welcome to the new hideous New York built on "old" New York's delipidated infrastructure and when I say "old" an example is the water main break in the West Village and the pipe was from before the Civil War which shows the engineers and builders from that era where pretty darn amazing.
This new hideous aquarium aka a studio for Cooper Union although I was told one of many rumors and one is like Columbia U., NYU, etc there might be some "research" of a scientific nature that if they community knew about -- the community would be really upset.
Oligarch central -- they just do want they want to do, what do you think this is a democracy? Do you think these not for profit real estate magnates owe the tax paying community anything?
I have heard that mirrored buildings are the cheapest to build and it mirrors conjur hollywood movies of drug addicts sniffing cocaine off of mirrors. Mirrors conjur drugs and narcissism. I also think the new obsession with plastic surgery which is part of this new mirrored mentality. I imagine our mega millionaire socialite city planner Amanda Burden admiring her handiwork because with out it the St. Ann's, 120 East 12th Street, the yellow Cooper Union Science building go not be torn down and the hideous sky piercing hotels along the Bowery and Rivington could not have supersized the Lower East Side.
Add Mike to that equation and have you noticed the streets that supersized on and around look like hell. Two New Yorks -- one supersized the other falling a part at the seems in every way possible.

ps let me count the cranes....hmmm, how many cranes do you see on the Bowery and city wide, still hard to believe they can monitor and police all on going tsunami of construction or destruction -- your call. St. George next to the hideous mirrored aquarium might feel it is destruction because of their stained glass windows and having a building that looks like it was designed for Mars or maybe Miami Beach, LA, some where other than the Bowery just makes me wish they could require drug testing for architects including anti-depressants because the Bowery Hotel looks like a prison.
Under Guiliani to save money he let architects self certify but Scarano, mister give the community the finger where ever he builds finally messed with a community, not ours but a Brooklyn community that effectively kicked Scarano's zone busting self certifying architect's butt. . The new hideous New York including every NYU mega dorm has to be the most ugly architecture ever seen in NYC and know of it "fits" in with the East Village, Lower East Side and Bowery and that is because they want "old" New York and the entire community out of here as in bye, bye so they can further supersize!
