It has been removed.  2007 water main break only WPIX and NY1 covered. When it broke open again I tried to tell Bill Sanderson he hung up on me.  Man hole exploded 2nd ave and 3rd  and there were many reports of gas leaks.

Posted on Jun 7, 2010http://www.ny1.com/content/69978/east-village-water-main-break-leaves-thousands-without-water (NY1 removed and see links below as I talked about gas issues as well.  I don't believe the explosion was 1 person's fault was so many gas leaks manhole covers and water main breaks right there or within blocks). In my opinion Cooper Union's mega sized studio build caused this medium size water main break that looked like the East River came to 2nd Avenue. You can see a diverse group of East Villager including me interviewed.

The intersection still has not healed and is as dangerous as hell.

Also small businesses are gone. Infrastructure breaks have that effect often people are forced out which is good for developers.

There years and the city can't solve this problem. I photographed a custom street conditions car courtesy of the tax payers parked in front of the crater and the city gov worker no where to be found.
